Border Cats add four hitters

Two outfielders, and infielder and a catcher join the growing 2019 roster.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Border Cats have added a quartet of hitters to their 2019 roster.

The Northwoods League team on Friday announced outfielders Jake Engel and Ryne Edmondson, catcher Joe Jimenez and infielder Tyson Fisher have agreed to play north of the border this summer.

Fisher, a freshman at Dixie Valley University in St. George, Utah, blasted 10 home runs and drove in 42 in his final year of high school, where he also won six games on the mound and finished in the top 10 in the league with 76 strikeouts.

Future college teammate Engel hit .276 as a sophomore, with two homers and 22 RBI. The Tuscon, Ariz. Native also finished third at Dixie Valley with nine doubles.

Jimenez is also a sophomore, donning the tools of ignorance at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. He hit .195 in 34 games, driving in 12 with three doubles and two homeruns.

Edmonson, a 5-foot-10 lefty, is set to enter his rookie season at Utah Valley University.

The Cats open their 17th season on May 28 at Port Arthur Stadium against Duluth. The team has an early-bird season ticket special on through the end of February.
