THUNDER BAY -- Though it may be a modest one, the Thunder Bay Border Cats are riding a winning streak.
A Nick Studer sacrifice fly in the 10th inning propelled the Border Cats to a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Mankato MoonDogs for their second straight win in Northwoods League baseball at Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday.
The sacrifice fly was the second of the contest for Studer, who drove in the Border Cats’ first run of the game on a similar play in the 6th inning.
After Mankato opened the scoring with a run-scoring single from Derek Umphres off Thunder Bay starter Ryan Powers in the fourth, the Border Cats responded to take the lead.
After Studer tied the game, Adam Collins drove Christian Correia home from third in the next inning to put the home side ahead.
The lead held until the ninth, when Mankato tied the game with a run-scoring single from Peter Maris.
The run was the lone one conceded by the Thunder Bay bullpen over five innings of work.
Despite giving up the game-tying run, Thunder Bay native Lucas Sccochia picked up the win in relief for his third of the campaign. Trey Cobb was saddled with the loss for Mankato.
Border Cats starter Ryan Powers tossed five innings and only surrendering the lone run, picking up a no decision. Taylor Elman worked into the seventh for the MoonDogs and was tagged for the two runs, also picking up a no decision.
Thunder Bay (8-17) will host the Eau Claire Express for a pair of contests on Sunday and Monday.
