Lakehead University’s Alasdair Brown is in the 1,500-metre final at the Canadian Track and Field Trials in Calgary.

Brown, a native of Manitoba, had to either finish in the top four in his heat, one of two held, or be one of the next four fastest finishers. He took the latter route, crossing the line in a time of 3:44.49

Nathan Brannen easily took top spot of the 24 racers, finishing in 3:34:22.

Lakehead’s Heather Maxfield wasn’t so lucky.

Maxfield, who advanced to the trials in a Wednesday qualifier, was last in her semifinal heat in the women’s 400-metre event and did not advance.

Long-distance runner Hilary Quirion did not finish Wednesday night in the women’s 10,000-metre race.

Neither Tess Naroski (women’s 800-metre), nor Travis Roske (men’s 800-metre) advanced through qualifiers on Wednesday.

The men’s 1,500-metre final is slated for Friday afternoon. On the line is a berth at next month's Olympic Games in London.
