Cats fall again in Brainerd Lakes 11-6 as road trip continues

The Border Cats hitters on Saturday showed they could climb out of a hole, but the pitching staff, on the other hand, showed they could put the team right back in it.
The Border Cats hitters on Saturday showed they could climb out of a hole, but the pitching staff, on the other hand, showed they could put the team right back in it.

The Cats, losers of two straight after falling 11-6 to Brainerd Lakes, trailed 4-1 after three innings, but scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Will Thorp, Jeff Deblieux, Ryan Court and Tyler Wosleger each knocked in a run in the productive fifth.

But the Lunkers were far from finished with their bats, scoring two in the sixth to tie and four of their own in the seventh to take the lead for good off reliever Matt White (6-3), brought in to take over for Will Krasne, himself a replacement for starter Christian Dekker.

T.J. Berge started the deluge off with a double. Tommy Reyes walked and both advanced on a Chadd Krist sacrifice. Russ Hopkins followed with a single, scoring both runners and Brainerd Lakes were up 8-6. Vince Bruno singled home two more to put the game away.

Brandon Baumgartner (6-2) pitched the final four innings in relief to earn the win.

The Cats travel to Mankato for a pair before returning home from a 12-day road trip on Tuesday, where they will reacquaint themselves with Port Arthur Stadium against those same Moondogs.
