THUNDER BAY – They did it the hard way, but the Thunder Bay Border Cats are back in the win column.
The Northwoods League club on Saturday scored four times in their final three times at bat, earasing a 5-2 deficit to the Mankato Moon Dogs en route to a 7-5 trumph.
The host Moon Dogs left the bases loaded in the ninth against Cats closer Brady Hill.
Colin Rosenbaum had a pair of RBI for Thunder Bay, despite not collecting a hit, while Brendan Dougherty crossed the plate twice for the Cats (5-7), who climbed to within four games of front-running St. Cloud in the North Division standings.
Thunder Bay starter Brandon Wiliamson lasted just four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks.
Mankato’s Addison Reed took the loss, loading the bases with none out in the eighth beforebeing sent to the showers.
Asher Cook picked up the win for Thunder Bay, tossing 1.2 innings of no-hit ball.
The Cats visit LaCrosse on Sunday. Their home opener is slated for next Saturday, ending an unprecedented 17-game road trip to start the 2017 season.
