The Thunder Bay Border Cats split a double-header in St. Cloud on Wednesday night, scoring a 4-3 win in the opener over the St. Cloud River Bats, but falling 3-2 on a sixth-inning error by SS Ryan Court in the nightcap.
P.K. Kitamura singled in the penultimate sixth inning in the early game, driving home Garret Houts with what proved to be the winner.
Michael Woytek went the distance, scattering six hits over seven innings, improving to 4-3 on the season.
A three-run fifth erased a 3-0 St. Cloud advantage, the first two scoring on a Jeff Deblieux triple, the third on a Will Thorp single.
Austen Wisroth (2-3) took the loss for the River Bats.
In the second game, made necessary by a Tuesday rainout, Joey Benke hit a one-out, seventh-inning double to tie the game 2-2, then with two outs Deryk Marks hit a grounder that Court mishandled, allowing Benke to score the winning news.
The Cats are 6-11, last in the Northwoods League's North Division.
In other Border Cats news, shortstop Brett Doe and relief pitcher Jorge Rodriguez have left the club of their own accord.
Doe, a defensive stalwart, was hitting just .121 in 45 games. Rodriguez was 0-3 with a woeful 12.53 ERA in 10 appearances.
