Defending champion Tracy Horgan made easy work of Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville on Monday night.

The Sudbury skip raced out to a 3-0 lead after one in her opening match at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts and cruised to a 9-3 win over four-time champion McCarville of the Fort William Curling Club.

Thunder Bay’s Marlo Dahl had a much tighter match against Jacqueline Harrison, but still came out on the losing end when all was said and done.

Harrison tied the game 4-4 in the ninth, then stole one in 10 for the 5-4 victory.

Also winning Monday were former champs Sherry Middaugh, Cathy Auld and Rachel Homan.

McCarville takes on Auld at 2 p.m. Tuesday while Dahl matches up against Middaugh.
