Brett Wur scored the winner with eight minutes to go in regulation on Friday night, handing the Sioux Lookout Flyers a second straight preseason win over the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs.

Wur, who also assisted on A.J. Merritt’s opening goal at 6:51 of the first, beat Joel Adams on the power play, helping the Flyers salvage what had once been a 4-1 that ultimately became a 5-4 Sioux Lookout triumph.

Matt Reed, Nelson Rosiak and Max Strasser also scored for the Flyers.

Josh Reid had two goals and an assist for the Ice Dogs, whose other goals came from Ty Brueggeman and Jesse Linner.

The Flyers next action comes on Thursday when they host Fort Frances, the start of a home-and-home series that concludes on Friday.

The Thunder Bay North Stars kick off their exhibition season on Friday, traveling to thunder Bay to play the Neepawa Natives of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The Superior International Junior Hockey League regular season begins on Sept. 16 when defending champion Wisconsin travels to Sioux Lookout and the North Stars visit Fort Frances.
