THUNDER BAY – Former Thunder Bay Border Cats catcher Michael Papierski has been drafted for a second time.

The Houston Astros on Tuesday grabbed the Lousiana State University prospect in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft, with the 271st overall pick.

Papierski, originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 16th round in 2014, donned the tools of ignorance and hit .275 for the Border Cats in 2016, cracking a pair of home runs and driving in 19 in 33 appearances. He also walked 23 times and finished with a .401 on base percentage.

The 6-foot-4 backstop from Palermo Heights, Ill. hit .260 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs with the LSU Tigers in 2017.

He’ll join former teammate and 2015 No. 2 overall pick Alex Bregman in the Astros organization.
