WATERLOO, Ont. – Scott Gall scored the go-ahead goal with just under seven minutes to go in the third and the Lakehead Thunderwolves only needed two games to find the win column to start the 2019-20 season.

The 3-2 road win over the Laurier Golden Hawks evened Lakehead’s record at 1-1-0, coming on the heels of Thursday’s 6-0 loss to the Waterloo Warriors to open their 19th season.

Steven MacLean opened the scoring for the host Golden Hawks at the 4:25 mark of the first, but Jake Larson needed less than three minutes to even things up for Lakehead.

Daniel Del Paggio notched the go-ahead goal at 14:06 of the opening period and the Wolves took a 2-1 lead into the second.

However, Ethan Wiseman put the puck past Thunderwolves goaltender Nic Renyard, at 6:44 of the third to tie the game 2-2.

Renyard, who was yanked in the opener, allowed just two goals on 21 shots to earn the win. Tyler Fassl was good on 24 of 27 shots he faced in being saddled with the loss.
