Sean Cunninghame fired a hat-trick and dished out three assists to help lead the Northern Hawks past the Jr. B Stars Thursday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

The only goal of the opening period came off the stick of Cunnighame, midway through the period, as he finished off an Ehren Menard feed during a man advantage opportunity.

There would be plenty of scoring in the middle frame with the two sides combining for seven goals in a 12-minute span.

Ryan Powell, Jordy Armiento, Will Moore and Menard all tallied for the Hawks while Sean Moulton notched a pair for the Stars and Adam Joyce supplied a single to make it 5-3 after 40 minutes.

Cunninghame would tack on two more markers in the third period to complete his big night while Powell buried his second goal of the evening to go along with three helpers giving him a five-point performance.

Mitch Crawford had the final marker for the Stars.

Shots on goals favoured the Hawks 47-33 with Markus Leikkari picking up the win in net and Greg Turner suffering the loss.

League play continues Friday when the Nipigon Elks host the Screaming Eagles at the Nipigon Community Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
