THUNDER BAY -- The senior high school football will not be played on Saturday as scheduled.

Officials with the Superior Secondary Schools Athletic Association on Friday announced that because of winter weather arriving in Thunder Bay, the championship game between the St. Ignatius Falcons and Westgate Tigers instead will be played on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Fort William Stadium.

"Due to bad weather conditions over Friday and a forecast that calls for snow and a mix of freezing rain that will extend overnight and into Saturday morning, in the interest of safety on the roads and on the playing surface, the decision was made to move the game to a later date," spokesman Lance Jones said in an email statement.

"City of Thunder Bay facility crews will be working on the field for the next three days to ensure playable field conditions. THe all-weather turf requires special care with regards to snow removal."

The Falcons (6-1) finished in first place in the regular season standings. The Tigers are 3-4.
