Hockey Lions double up Thunderwolves

Lakehead hockey’s slide to the second division continued Friday night.

Lakehead hockey’s slide to the second division continued Friday night.

Jesse Messier, who scored twice on the night, and Mark Cross scored third-period goals to break open a 2-2 game as the York Lions leapfrogged the visiting Thunderwolves in the OUA West standings with a 4-2 win.

Luke Judson scored both LU goals in the second, helping erase a 2-0 lead the Lions built with goals by Messier and Mackenzie Micks that came two minutes apart in the opening 83 seconds of the middle stanza.

Judson, one of the lone bright spots on the fifth-place Wolves (10-7-2), is up to 13 goals on the season, tied for sixth in the league.

Alex Dupuis was beaten four times on 30 shots to take the loss in nets for Lakehead, who will look to exact a little revenge on Saturday when the two teams hook up again.
