Davy Wright’s 12th inning solo shot Wednesday night has sent the Rochester Honkers to the Northwoods League final in search of a second straight title.
Wright drilled a 1-0 count over the wall at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud and the Honkers added two more before the inning was done, sweeping the best-of-three North Division final 2-0 with a 5-2 win.
The Honkers trailed 2-0 midway through the contest, but Richie Jimenez singled home Chris Elder off St. Cloud starter Jason Van Skike, who three batters later walked Ryan Hambright with the bases loaded to tie the score, ending Van Skike’s night.
J.C. Casey took over and kept the Honkers off the scoresheet until the 12th, when Wright homered off him to put Rochester up for good.
In the South Division final the Eau Claire Express staved off elimination Wednesday night, downing the Wisconsin Woodchucks 4-1.
Nathan Orf drove in a pair in a winning cause for Eau Claire, who finished six games ahead of Wisconsin in the overall season standings.
