Huskies nip Cats in ninth

All-star Cody Asche didn’t get the ball out of the infield, but a ninth-inning grounder was ample enough wood on the ball to score the game-winning run for the Huskies on Sunday, who edged the Thunder Bay Border Cats 4-3.

All-star Cody Asche didn’t get the ball out of the infield, but a ninth-inning grounder was ample enough wood on the ball to score the game-winning run for the Huskies on Sunday, who edged the Thunder Bay Border Cats 4-3.

Asche, who leads the league with 48 RBI and is second with seven homers, drove home Zeke DeVoss, who singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

The Cats, in the midst of a franchise high 12-game road trip,  took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Will Thorp smashed a bases-loaded double off Duluth starter Josh Renfro.

The Huskies tied it in the eighth when Scott Sommerfield reached on a Tyler Wosleger error, and eventually came around to score on a Jeff Reynolds single.

Zak Miller (6-2) took the loss for the Cats, who head to St. Cloud on Monday night.
