Ice Dogs edge Wilderness

Jon Mitchell and Ben McClellan scored a power-play goal and added an assist in the second period, providing all the offense the Dryden Ice Dogs would need to defeat the expansion Wisconsin Wilderness 2-1 on Saturday night.

Mitchell’s goal, came just 32 seconds into the middle stanza, giving Dryden a 1-0 lead at the time. McLellan followed 14 minute later with his second tally in three games to start the Superior International Junior Hockey League season.

Keith Tessin notched the lone Wilderness goal, beating Ice Dogs goalie Ian Perrier midway through the final period.

JakeHebda took the loss for visiting Wisconsin (1-1-0), stopping 23 of 25 shots he faced in the lone league contest Saturday night.  

Wisconsin won its SIJHL debut on Friday, beating Sioux Lookout 3-2.

Dryden (2-1-0) beat Duluth 4-1 on Friday, a night after falling 5-2 to the defending league champion Fort William North Stars.
