Jets plan major AHL announcement on Monday

The Winnipeg Jets say they will unveil a major American Hockey League announcement on Monday morning.

The Winnipeg Jets say they will unveil a major American Hockey League announcement on Monday morning.

The NHL team had entered into an agreement with Thunder Bay Live and were discussing moving their top farm team to Thunder Bay if an event centre was built. However, with no federal or provincial funding forthcoming, it's believed they are seeking another long-term solution.

The Jets announced earlier in the year they were moving their St. John's Ice Caps AHL team to Winnipeg, with general manager Kevin Chveldayoff saying he was planning to keep the team in the Manitoba capital for the long term.

According to CBC Winnipeg's Mitch Peacock, the team will announce the AHL squad's nickname, colour scheme and logo on Monday.

The AHL's Manitoba Moose existed for 10 seasons 2001 to 2011 before moving to Newfoundland and Labrador.

The announcement, scheduled for 12 p.m. EDT, can be seen at the Jets official website
