New Brunswick’s Josh Barry took early command of Monday’s Draw 5 match against Matthew Roberts rink from Thunder Bay and never looked back.

New Brunswick’s Josh Barry took early command of Monday’s Draw 5 match against Matthew Roberts rink from Thunder Bay and never looked back.

Barry scored three with the hammer in the first, then stole four in the second and one in the third, cruising to a lopsided 13-5 win on Day 3 of the Canadian Junior Curling Championship in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Roberts put up a three-ender in the fourth, but the undefeated Barry (3-0) rallied back with five in the fifth to go up 13-3.

The Northern Ontario foursome, that includes Will Perozak, Mac Joblin and Zach Warkentin, fell to 1-3.

The news was considerably better on the women’s side of the draw.

Thunder Bay’s Tirzah Keffer, who started the week with a pair of losses, on Monday won her second straight, downing Prince Edward Island 11-6.

Keffer, Rachel Camlin, Megan Westlund and Sheree Hinz took control of the match in the fourth, putting up four points to go up 6-2.
P.E.I. skip Veronica Smith (1-2) did her best to make things interesting, utilizing steals in eigh and nine to pull to within two, trailing 8-6 heading into the 10th. But Keffer saved her best for last and scored three to wrap up the game and improve to 2-2.
