Dylan Brown finished fifth on Saturday at the CIS cross-country championship, good enough to earn the freshman runner national rookie-of-the-year honours.
Brown captured fifth spot in the race behind record-breaking Kelly Wiebe of Regina, who shattered the previous course best by 36 seconds. Brown finished in 31:22.
Dominique Aulagnon, Travis Roske, Kevin Tree and Tyler White finshed 46th, 63rd, 72nd and 88th respectively.
Danielle Thiel of the women’s side crossed the line in 43rd
.
"It was a solid day for Danielle and the men's team. Danielle proved that she can compete at this level and had her best race of the year,” said LU coach Kip Sigsworth, who earlier this week was named the CIS coach of the year.
“On the men's side a top 10 finish was the goal from the start of the season and we achieved this despite not having a great day overall. Dylan Brown was awesome today. He ran with tremendous poise and confidence and mixed it up with the best runners in Canada. Everyone who raced today is back next year and they will use this experience to improve and come back next year even stronger."
