They certainly weren’t the beasts of the east.
The No. 9-ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves stormed into Montreal on Friday night and laid an 11-2 beating on the second-place Concordia Stingers.
Victor Anilane, playing on the top line alongside Matt Caria and Ryan McDonald, made the most of his opportunity, scoring twice and adding an assist. Second-year forward Brennan Menard had two goals and two assists, totals, and the streaking Kris Hogg had a pair and a helper, upping his season total to nine goals, one behind McDonald.
Mitch Maunu, Andy Hyvarinen, Andrew Wilkins, Brock McPherson and Caria were the Wolves other goal scorers.
Derek Famulare netted the first Concordia goal, beating Alex Dupuis for his fourth of the season late in the first, after Lakehead had built a 5-0 lead. Dominic Martel scored early in the third to make it 9-2.
Concordia goalie Maxime Joyal was replaced by Sheldon Baerg at 13:01 of the second, after Menard’s first of the night, the Wolves eighth.
It was Lakehead’s sixth straight win, as they improved to 10-4-1 with one game left before the Christmas break, a rematch with the Stingers (9-6-0) on Saturday night.
