THUNDER BAY – Shane Selmen was a double away from a cycle on Friday night, leading the St. Cloud Rox to an 8-2 win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats.

Selmen, who homered, tripled and added a pair of singles while driving in a pair of runs, also crossed the plate twice as the Rox pounded the Cats in their return to Port Arthur Stadium.

Rox starter Aaron Rozek was stingy on the mound, distributing just three hits over eight innings to pick up the win, upping his record to 3-0 in the process.

Brandon Williamson took the loss and fell to 0-4, chased in the sixth after surrendering five runs on nine hits.

Noah Strohl tripled in the first and drove in a run to lead the Cats offensively, the other RBI coming on a Kevin Biondic sacrifice fly in the fourth.

It was the third straight loss for Thunder Bay (8-17) who have fallen into the Northwoods League’s North Division cellar, 10 games out of first place with time all but running out on a chance at a first-half title. St. Cloud (18-7), on the other hand, held on to a slim half-game lead over Waterloo (17-7).

The Cats and Rox will wrap up their two-game set on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
