Local curlers have mixed results at Special Olympics

The Mykola Cuthbertson-led team scored a 6-4 win over North Bay in their only match of the day, scoring three in the first end and stealing two in the second to cruise to an easy win. Thunder Bay 2 added a single in the fourth to go up 6-2, before surrendering points in the fifth and sixth ends.

The team also includes second Jim Moffat, third Peter Malcolm and lead Rachel Warren.

It wasn’t quite as good a day for the Thunder Bay 1 rink, skipped by David Heise. They fell 7-3 to Brantford in their opening match, and dropped a 6-4 decision to Sudbury in Draw 2.

The team also includes second Janice Martinsen, third Paul Uoala and Lead Jordan Pretchuk.

In other Draw 1 play, Central Bruce beat Midland 5-4, Brampton downed Ottawa 11-2, Lindsay edged Timmins 5-4 and North Bay knocked off Collingwood 5-4.

In Draw 2 action, Central Bruce moved to 2-0, blanking Welland 12-0, Ottawa rebounded with a 6-4 win over London and Brampton doubled Timmins 6-3 for its second win of the day.

Action continues on Saturday at the Fort William Curling Club.
