NIPIGON – The Krista McCarville foursome righted the ship on Friday at the Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Nipigon.

The Thunder Bay skip scored an 8-4 over the Larissa Mikkelson rink, though she had to work for the win, stealing a pair of points in the ninth end to put the match away.

McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly were coming off the disappointment of a 10-7 loss Thursday night at the hands of former Northern Ontario champion Tracy Fleury.

The Sudbury skip retained her undefeated status on Friday afternoon, downing Thunder Bay’s Hailey Beaudry 9-3 to improve to 4-0 after four draws.

McCarville started strong, scoring two in the first, but only 3-2 through four ends over Mikkelson and her team, which includes lead Lady Stachiw, second Ali McCulloch and third Shana Marchessault.

The defending champion traded two-point ends with Mikelsson in the sixth and seventh ends, and grabbed a single in the eighth to go up by two, leading 6-4.

Mikelsson, who curls out of Thunder Bay’s Port Arthur Curling Club, dropped to 0-4.

McCarville takes on Beaudry in Draw 5 on Friday night, while Fleury will play Mikelsson in the other match. Round-robin play wraps up on Saturday morning.

McCarville and Fleury will meet for a third time in Saturday night’s final, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
