McCarville rink wins third straight at Scotties

Like a good poker player, it appears Krista McCarville might have been slow playing the competition.

McCarville stole three in the 10th end of Wednesday’s evening draw at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, earning her an 8-4 win over Idylwylde’s Tracy Horgan, who lost for the second time in the day.

The two-time defending champion, and winner of four of the past five provincial women’s curling championships, was up 4-1 after four ends, but Horgan stormed back, netting a pair in the fifth and stealing one in the sixth to tie the score.

The win puts the McCarville foursome, which also includes lead Sarah Lang, second Kari MacLean and third Ashley Miharija, squarely back into the playoff picture at 3-2, in a three-way tie for third place.

Thunder Bay skips Marlo Dahl and Ashley Kallos are one win back at 2-3. Kallos fell 6-5 to Lisa Farnell on Wednesday night, while Dahl, who owned a 4-3 lead after six ends, lost 10-4 to Marika Bakewell of the Highland Country Club.

Round robin play at the 10-team, Thornhill, Ont. event continues on Thursday and Friday.
