Northern Ontario rinks lose to Territories at Dominion Curling Club Championships

Both the Northern Ontario men’s and women’s rinks went down to defeat Wednesday in their only match of the day at the Dominion Curling Club Championships at Fort William Curling Club.

Both the Northern Ontario men’s and women’s rinks went down to defeat Wednesday in their only match of the day at the Dominion Curling Club Championships at Fort William Curling Club.

Copper Cliff’s Jason Strelezki took an early 2-0 lead on the Northwest Territories, but surrendered steals of one in the third, fourth and fifth ends and fell 5-3.

Strelezki dropped to 2-2, in a three-way tie for third place. Yukon leads the Grey Pool at 4-1, a win more than Alberta. Saskatchewan tops the Blue Pool at 4-1, after dumping Newfoundland and Labrador 8-5.

Kathie Jackson’s Fort Francis foursome fell 6-3 to the Northwest Territories, giving up steals in the sixth and seventh ends.

Jackson and her Wednesday opponent are tied for fifth in the Grey Pool at 1-3. Manitoba, who knocked off New Brunswick 7-4, remained perfect at 5-0. Saskatchewan (5-0) and Ontario (4-0) are also both unbeaten atop the Blue Pool.

The Northern Ontario teams play Yukon and British Columbia on Thursday in the final two round-robin draws.

The top two teams in each pool advance to the playoff round.
