THUNDER BAY – Hall of famers Bobby Orr and Grant Fuhr headline this year’s crop of celebrities taking part in Monday’s pro-am event to kick off Staal Foundation Open week.
The duo will be making their third straight appearance at the McKenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada event, which will also include all four hockey-playing Staal brothers – Eric, Marc, Jordan and Jared.
There will be plenty of other local NHL talent on hand too, a group that includes St. Louis Blues goaltender Carter Hutton, Ottawa Senators forward Tom Pyatt, former NHLer and current Windsor Spitfires coach Trevor Letowski and Norm Maciver , the longtime NHL defenceman who is currently an assistant general manager with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Trevor Kidd, Stewart Gavin, Justin Faulk, Mike Krushelnyski, ex-Leaf Brian Boyle and former on-ice officials Kerry Fraser and Ray Scapinello will also take part in the tournament, which features three local players, a celebrity and a touring pro.
TSN’s Glenn Schiiler, born and raised in Thunder Bay, will also be in the field, alongside colleagues Gino Reda and Darren Dutchyshen. Many of the celebrities will also take part in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic road hockey game earlier in the day on Monday.
