Yoosrie Salhia and the Lakehead Thunderwolves picked up where they left off.
Salhia banged home 22 points and added nine rebounds on Friday, pacing the Wolves to a 90-50 win over the University of Northern B.C. Timberwolves.
Ryan Thomson netted 11 points, grabbed five boards and dished out five assists for Lakehead in the opener of the annual Wesmen Classic in Winnipeg.
Manitoba native Joey Nitychoruk played well in front of the home crowd, collecting 10 points and eight assists.
Joel Rybachuk led UNBC with nine points.
“Considering it was the first game back after a long break I was fairly pleased with our defensive effort today. UNBC has an explosive team and our guys did a good job setting the defensive tone early. Our goal will be to improve our execution each day and look to maintain a high level of energy for the entire tournament,” LU coach Scott Morrison said in a release.
