Skier Ritchie earns spot at world under 23 championship

THUNDER BAY -- Graham Ritchie, a skier with ties to Thunder Bay, has qualified for the under 23 world championships.

Ritchie, 22, qualified on Thursday, topping the field on Day 1 of the Canadian trials at Mont St. Anne, Que., his first national Noram circuit win.

The Parry Sound native is in his third season with the National Team Development Centre - Thunder Bay.

NTDC teammate Pierre Grall-Johnson also made the podium on Thursday, earning bronze.

Both skiers are fresh off stints with Team Canada on the World Cup circuit.

On the junior side, Kai Meekis took fifth place and will be seeking out a spot on Canada's junior team when racing resumes on Saturday.
