Slumping Cats drop seventh straight

Jordan McCoy may be an all-star, but he sure didn’t pitch like one Friday.

Called on to hold the visiting Willmar Stingers in the ninth, tied 6-6 with the Thunder Bay Border Cats, McCoy surrendered three runs and was tagged with the 9-7 loss, his slumping team’s seventh straight defeat.

McCoy, who took over from fellow all-star Wes Parsons who tossed a hitless eighth inning, gave up four hits, all the run-scoring plays coming with two outs.

Dillon Haupt doubled to score a pair of Stingers to break the tie in the ninth and Max Kuhn singled to put it out of reach.

The Cats (5-11), got another two-RBI performance out of catcher Danny Bethea, who has driven in multiple runners four times in his past 10 outings, though snapped a five-game RBI drought on Friday. Bethea socked a two-run blast in the third, giving Thunder Bay starter Garrett Hughes a 3-0 lead at the time. 

Adam Landecker, Andrew Ayers and Cory Kay had the other RBI for Cats, who will look to rebound Saturday against the Stingers.
Brady Anderson earned the win in relief.
