The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting Thunder Bay’s Jordan Staal has suffered a setback in his recovery from a second surgery on his injured foot.
Staal, who had a tendon cut when Montreal’s P.K. Subban’s skate sliced through his skate during last spring’s playoffs, missed two games, but had a second operation after the Penguins were eliminated from the playoffs.
The newspaper reports Staal will be re-evaluated next week.
“This is a matter of when he will be ready for training camp and then, if not, when can he go hard,” Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero told the paper.
Training camp is scheduled to get under way next month.
Shero said the soon-to-be-22-year-old should have plenty of time to get ready for the Oct. 7 season opener.
