Stars find way back into win column

The Minnesota Iron Rangers have had the Thunder Bay North Stars number of late. But not on Friday night.

The Minnesota Iron Rangers have had the Thunder Bay North Stars number of late.

But not on Friday night.

Trevor Hoth opened the scoring 51 seconds into the second, but the North Stars (18-16-1) rolled off four straight tallies after that, cruising to a 4-1 road win and a share of fourth place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings.

Kolton Kahoot and Alex Vaillant staked the Stars to a 2-1 lead after two, with Trevor Hynnes and Matt Kaarela, who also had a pair of assists, finished things off in the third.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak dating back before Christmas.

At Fort Frances, Mike Dietrich had a goal and an assist and the top-ranked Minnesota Wilderness got goals from six different players, easily taking down the host Lakers 6-2. Davis Smith and Jon Carlson were the Fort Frances scorers.
