Stars take out Iron Rangers in OT

Matt Kaarela continued his hot-handed ways Friday night, but it was Mathias Gardiman who played the hero role. Gardiman scored 1:37 into overtime to hand the Thunder Bay North Stars a 3-2 win over the host Minnesota Iron Rangers.

Kaarela, who had four goal and six points in a Wednesday triumph over Duluth, scored two more against the Iron Rangers to extend his Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading total to 26.

Austin Frank and Jonathan Losurdo scored for Minnesota, who last weekend swept a pair of games against the Stars at Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay returns home Saturday night for a game against the Fort Frances Lakers.
