After dropping their first two games, the Thunder Bay rink roared back with three straight wins. Then Thursday came along.
Team McCarville fell 8-5 to Jill Mouzar in the afternoon draw, then were doubled 6-3 by ex-champion Rachel Homan in their evening match, falling to 3-4 at the provincial women’s curling championship.

While it didn’t help their playoff hopes, the loss didn’t cost them any ground. Both Julie Hastings (4-3) and Sherry Middaugh (4-3) also lost Thursday night, keeping McCarville, Kari Lavoie, Ashley Miharija and Sarah Lang in striking distance.

Homan (7-0) and Cathy Auld (6-1) have already clinched playoff berths. The top four teams advance to the page playoffs.

Thunder Bay’s other entry at the week-long Waterloo, Ont. event, the Port Arthur Curling Club’s Marlo Dahl, gave up steals in the ninth and 10th ends and lost for the seventh time in seven outings, falling 5-4 to North Bay’s Kendra Lilly.

Dahl has to yet to win in seven draws.

McCarville takes on Jacqueline Harrison and Middaugh on Friday to wrap up round-robin play. Dahl takes on Hastings and Auld. A pair of wins for McCarville would guarantee at least a spot in a tiebreaker.
