Overtime wasn’t kind to Lakehead’s women’s basketball team on Friday night.

After battling back from a 12-point deficit and almost doubling their output from the first half to the second, the Wolves came up short in the extra period against the Queen’s Golden Gaels, losing 67-63 in their 2012-13 home opener.

Ayse Kalkan had 18 for the Thunderwolves, including a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. Kelsey Bardsley added 14 and Carolyn Fragale 11.

Queen’s, who out-rebounded Lakehead 42-29 got 16 from Gemma Bullard and a dozen apiece from Liz Boag, Robyn Pearson and Jenny Wright.
