KITCHENER, Ont. – Keigan Goetz scored the overtime winner on Thursday night that sunk the Lakehead Thunderwolves modest two-game winning streak.
The Waterloo Warriors forward beat LU netminder Nic Renyard 5:04 into the extra frame, earning his team a hard-fought 6-5 home-ice triumph at the Columbia Ice Field Arena.
Josh Laframboise and Tomas Soustal each had a pair for the Thunderwolves, who trailed 3-1 and 4-2 in the second, but battled back to send the game beyond regulation.
Jake Larson, who opened the scoring 8:42 into the contest, had Lakehead’s other goal.
Jack Scanlan netted a hat trick for the Warriors, with singles going to Connor Cole and Alex Pawelczyk.
Kyle Auger and Daniel Del Paggio had a pair of helpers apiece for seventh-place Lakehead, who slipped to 5-5-2, a point ahead of 5-6-1 Waterloo in the OUA West standings.
Renyard stopped just 17 of 23 shots directed his way. Julian Sime made 40 saves for Waterloo.
The Wolves travel to Toronto on Friday to take on the Ryerson Rams (7-2-2).
