The Lakehead Thunderwolves have added some professional experience to their coaching staff.

Former American Hockey League assistant Mike Busniuk on Tuesday was named an assistant to coach Joel Scherban, joining holdovers Darrin Nicholas, Dan Bissonnette, Bob Bodak, Colin Zulianello and Steve Bailot.

Busniuk was an assistant coach in the AHL for the past 15 years, the last six with the Binghamton Senators.

A defenceman during his playing days, the Thunder Bay resident spent two seasons in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers.

“Mike brings an incredible amount of knowledge and experience from his 15 seasons as an assistant coach in the AHL and is a nice addition to our coaching staff,” Scherban said in a release issued by the team.
