THUNDER BAY – Kelin Ainsworth is headed overseas.
The Thunder Bay-born forward has signed a deal to play for Fehervari Titanok in Hungary next season, after leading the Lakehead Thunderwolves in scoring in his final OUA hockey season in 2016-17.
The 25-year-old Ainsworth spent four seasons at LU, scoring 38 goals and collecting 88 points over 107 regular-season games.
Earlier in the week the Thunderwolves announced they’d landed a new goaltender into the fold, snagging 22-year-old Nic Renyard from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The Victoria native had a 4.01 goals against average in nine games last season, with an .880 save percentage.
Previously the 22-year-old spent five seasons in the tier 2 junior ranks, posting a 30-8-3 record with a 2.19 goals against average for the Okotoks Oilers in 2014-15.
Renyard has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
”I’m excited to commit to the Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey program.” Renyard said in a release issued by the team.
“I’m really looking forward to being a part of an amazing hockey community and winning a lot of games over the next few years.”
