Kelsey Bardsley and Carolyn Fragale led the way for the Lakehead Thunderwolves, but their combined 23 points wasn’t enough to stop a tough University of Toronto Varsity Blues squad on Saturday night.

Jasmine Lewin netted 17 points and the Varsity Blues pulled away late to earn a 63-53 game, scoring the contest’s last nine points in the final four minutes.

"Our squad played hard and with heart tonight and just fell short against a tough Toronto team. I felt our first half we dictated tempo and were able to impose our will. We knew Toronto would come out with a zone in the second half and offensively we were ready for that,” said LU coach Jon Kreiner in a release.

“What we didn't do well was keep Toronto off the boards and we scrambled a little too much on defense leading to fouls and openings for Jasmine Lewin. Overall I take a positive out if this weekend, but I feel we let an opportunity slip by tonight."
