It wasn’t the end to 2010 the Thunder Bay North Stars were looking for.

Losing isn’t something the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team is used to enduring. Falling twice in a row is almost unheard of the past two seasons.

Florida wasn’t that bad for the Lakehead Thunderwolves after all. Sarah Gordon led the women’s basketball team for a second straight outing, powering home 20 points as the Wolves edged Indian River College 69-65 on Thursday night.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves only managed one goal against the Manitoba Bisons seldom-used back-ups on Wednesday night. Their sputtering offense stood no chance against the reigning CIS goaltender of the year.

Amber Peterson is living proof that freestyle skiers can make it out of Thunder Bay. On Thursday she gave up a portion of her Christmas holiday to help the next generation learn what it takes to become an Olympic level skier.
