A charitable asset

PDR Contracting and Concrete Walls Ltd using its resources to help charities and organizations throughout Thunder Bay.

PDR president Pat Murphy is not only a hard worker, but a proud one at that. Since becoming president in 2016, Murphy and the staff at PDR are a continuous asset to local and regional charities and organizations, making it the core of their business model.

“Our success story is that a lot of our clients are involved in different foundations so we get involved making it a give and take [relationship],” says Murphy, noting the relationship PDR has, not only with their clients but with the foundations they work for.

Some of those organizations are the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, St. Joseph’s Care Group, and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

“We do a lot of work with them, but we also try to give a lot back, allowing us to grow [as a business] quite significantly,” says Murphy.

One event is the 2021 St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay Golf Classic where Murphy says PDR is the presenting sponsor. Celebrating the golf classic’s 20th year, the tournament will take place on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 with the 18-hole tournament.

Prioritizing the community

As the lead performer and contributor in the Northwestern Ontario construction industry, PDR Contracting is committed to their client relationships but even more so with the relationships they have in the community, specifically charitable.

By taking the lead in construction, they also take the lead in organizing committees and one stand out is Special Olympics Ontario.

Murphy’s niece has down syndrome, so PDR makes it a priority to support and uphold the work Special Olympics Ontario is doing in the community. One such project was creating a space and paying for kids to come paint coffee mugs that PDR purchases, allowing kids to buy sporting equipment and uniforms with those funds.

“We have different kids making different cups and [the money] goes straight to them so they can participate in sports and get uniforms.”

Pillars of trust

With projects as vast as the Current River Dam and Giant Tiger, PDR contracting is not only upholding the standard for construction but creating the space and opportunity for charitable foundations to grow and better serve the community.

By sponsoring events and supplying the funds and tools for Thunder Bay organizations and foundations, Murphy says his staff is also heavily involved, volunteering and working at events and with organizations.

By being committed to the support of Thunder Bay’s infrastructure, Murphy and his staff are equally committed to the support of Thunder Bay organizations changing the community for good.
