Tbaytel for Good Community Fund fall campaign returns

Tbaytel is excited to bring the Tbaytel for Good Community Fund campaign back this fall season.
Tbaytel for Good

Over the past six months, as the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to evolve, much about our daily lives has changed. But one thing that has remained consistent through this unprecedented time is that people and organizations across northern Ontario are working hard to build better and brighter communities for everyone.

Earlier this year, Tbaytel adapted our planned Tbaytel for Good Community Fund spring campaign into the Neighbourhood Heroes campaign, which we used to recognize the contributions of essential workers and those taking positive action during a time of uncertainty and struggle for many.

This fall, we are excited to be able to bring back our annual Tbaytel for Good Community Fund fall campaign, Tbaytel will be providing financial support for people or groups across their serving territory that are looking to make a difference in their community.

Volunteers, not-for-profit groups, coaches, teachers, associations and other community members can apply for one of two $2,000 and two $5,000 grants to fund their ideas. Since 2013, we’ve invested $232,342 to help launch 86 projects in 18 northern Ontario communities. Past winners include the MAKWA Clan of Sioux Lookout, who received funding to conduct evening patrols which help keep their community safe, as well as The Borrowing Cupboard, the Mustangs’ Blessing Cupboard at St. Martin’s School, the Grub Tub Snack Program, Girls Night for the Girls and the Shuniah Soil Mates. Details about all the past winners and their projects are available at www.tbaytelforgood.net.

Examples of initiatives that qualify for funding include:

  • Community gardens & food security projects
  • Animal welfare project
  • Arts and culture programs
  • Sports and recreation programs
  • Events, workshops & educational opportunities
  • Youth activities & leadership programs
  • Community building initiatives
  • New materials, equipment or program supplies
  • Health and wellness opportunities

Overall, Tbaytel is looking to fund initiatives that could make an even bigger difference with the organization’s support behind them. This could include ongoing projects, new programs, or simply a need that’s been identified in a school, workplace, or elsewhere in their community.

Those interested can apply online at www.tbaytelforgood.net. Applications should include a brief description of the need or challenge they want to address, and how their project will create positive change. Applicants must also submit a simple video, which can be shot on a smartphone, to further demonstrate to the judges their need, their project or initiative and how the funding would help them make a difference.

Submissions will be open until October 23.

Once submissions have closed, the finalists for each funding level will be chosen, and the winners are determined with the help of the community. Keep an eye out and make sure to help your favourite project take home the prize by voting online from November 9-20. Winners will be announced November 30.
