Abhi is the team’s newest digital account executive and is loving his new career path at Dougall Media.
“I have heard a lot about Dougall Media, because I used to work closely with some reporters here. Also being a part of other nonprofit organizations in Thunder Bay, I had chances to be connected with reporters."
Abhi is enthusiastically involved with a lot of community events and community organizations.
“I'm a registered volunteer for the City of Thunder Bay since 2019, and I volunteer for the United Way, I'm also a cabinet member for GenNext."
When Abhi started his position, he was excited and ready for the new experience.
He worked as a manager in retail for about six years, and found this change to be perfect for him.
“At Dougall Media, everyone has a welcoming face.
“Nobody says, I'm busy or come back later sometime.
“Each and every person on my team, and from the editorial department, welcomed me.”
Abhi moved to Thunder Bay in the beginning of 2018 and attended Confederation College for international business management. He also completed public relations and event management at Sault College, in Sault Ste. Marie.
One of Abhi’s strengths is his communication and language skills.
He is from Kochi which is in Kerala, a south part of India.
“We have mountains on the right-hand side, and on the left-hand side we have Arabian sea.
“It's a really big city, not size-wise, but population-wise. I love to be with the people and publicly out there to do my thing.”
Abhi’s family was sad when he moved to Canada.
“They know that I'm doing well and being safe and secure here in Canada with amazing people around, and they're happy with that.
“I really miss it, but still, when we compare life, we are here for a reason. We are all here for a reason in this world, and we are only here for a short period of time doing our part for this world.”
He is very happy with the life he has here in Thunder Bay, and he's proud to be a Thunder Bay resident for the rest of his life.
Abhi has been a cricket player ever since he was a little child. He didn’t play professionally until coming to Canada.
“I started playing really good cricket here. We have a really big community where a lot of people love to play cricket. This year I'm captaining the team, which is amazing.”
Being among good people and the learning shows Abhi’s success in life.
“I believe that when you connect with really good people and meet new people, help them, success follows you. You don't want to go chase success; it will follow you as long as you can put in genuine effort.
"I’m grateful to have had some incredible mentors along the way who have helped me reach where I am today. Their guidance has shaped me, helped me grow, and continues to push me toward my goals."
If Abhi could spread one message, it would be this.
“Be open when needed, be a people person, strive to do more and do it effectively. Be smart, manage your time well, and you’ll build not only a successful career but a fulfilling life.
“And remember, our success isn’t just our own; it helps build and strengthen the community around us.”
