THUNDER BAY - The city of Thunder Bay will once again be celebrating all the contributions made by youth in the community.
On Monday, the city kicked off National Youth Week with an official proclamation and flag raising at city hall.
Youth Week is held every year from May 1 to 7 and is meant to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of youth.
“Youth in our community do so much,” said Sarah Smart, program supervisory for Children, Youth, and Junior Inclusion Services with the city of Thunder Bay.
“I think we see it all the time in different community organizations, in different employment, and different volunteer opportunities for youth. So we really want to make sure we are acknowledging all that and that youth have a safe place to be participating, to have a place they can get involved in the community.”
Throughout the week events will be held for youth, which include a bowling night, yoga, a BBQ, Food Frenzy, Twoonie Swim, movie night, and a block party.
“There will be a lot of different events that will hit a lot of different interests for youth,” Smart said.

“I think youth are really valuable in our community,” Smart said. “It’s just getting those youth involved and getting them involved on different committees and I think having a youth week highlights that and makes sure we all pay attention for a second to the youth in our community and what they are doing.”
