THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Thunder Bay's St. Ignatius High School, two days after an initial case was reported there.

In a release issued Saturday afternoon, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit said there were now two confirmed cases at the Current River school, with a public health investigation indicating at least one was likely acquired in the school setting.

Those considered high risk contacts of those cases will be contacted by public health, the TBDHU indicated. The school remains open.

St. Ignatius is one of a half dozen local schools where cases have been reported over the last week, as Thunder Bay saw COVID-19 cases surge to levels not seen since early June.

Other schools impacted include St. Ann, St. Martin, Elsie MacGill, Gron Morgan, and Westgate.
