ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – Krista McCarville will play for a medal at the Scott Tournament of Hearts, but it won be gold.

Ontario’s Rachel Homan scored four points with the hammer in the second end and held off her Thunder Bay opponent, downing McCarville 7-5 to advance to Sunday’s championship match against Manitoba.

McCarville will settle for a shot at bronze against Team Canada’s Chelsea Carey, who she routed earlier on Saturday 7-1 to advance to the semifinal round.

The Northern Ontario rink got two back in the third, only to have Ottawa’s Homan score two of her own in the fifth to hit the break with a 6-2 advantage. McCarville, who won silver a year ago, scored a single in the seventh to cut the lead to three, then stole a point in the eighth to make it 6-4. But Homan grabbed a point in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Manitoba’s Michelle Englot beat Homan during the round-robin portion of the national women’s curling championship, then on Friday night edged her 9-8 in the 1-2 Page playoff.

Sunday’s bronze medal game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
