Lakehead District School Board holding special meeting Friday to consider asking health unit to extend mask requirement locally.

Brings total number of deaths tied to the virus this year to 12; hospitalizations in district steady at 35.

Teachers’ unions, public health experts have expressed concerns over lifting of mask rules on March 21, while others welcome a return to normal.

The province could lift requirements in high-risk settings on April 27.

It's the 11th death tied to COVID in the district this year.

Toronto Star says province will lift masking restrictions in most, but not all settings, including schools. Announcement expected on Wednesday.

There are still seven active outbreaks in other high-risk settings in the district.

Just 857 shots were administered last week in the Thunder Bay District.

The outbreak is restricted to the 5 South area, health unit said.
