The merging of the Internet and social media allows the socially awkward to do amazing things with just the touch of a single smartphone button.

To the editor: This past Monday low and fixed income residents of Thunder Bay breathed a collective sigh of relief as the federal government put an end to any use of gas-tax funds for the city's proposed event centre.

The intent of the fund is to “help communities build and revitalize their public infrastructure that supports national objectives of productivity and economic growth, a clean environment and strong cities and communities”.

As to the event centre, it is my understanding that the only argument for it was to improve the city's economy.

The event centre may not be dead, but for many councillors, it’s been tagged with a do not resuscitate label.

Several years ago I found myself in Fort Frances for an international Safe Communities ­Con­fer­ence and one evening I attended a community fish fry.

To the editor: Our city Thunder Bay has so much to offer with a high quality of volunteers, elected officials, employers and employees and a solid group of young professionals that care for our community.

To the editor: An open letter to the mayor and council: It is with great interest that I watch the unfolding drama associated with the event centre, assuredly coming to a head at this Thursday’s meeting.
