Highway 17 speeding stop leads to impaired driving charge

LENDRUM TOWNSHIP, Ont. - A southwestern Ontario man faces numerous charges after being stopped by Ontario Provincial Police near Wawa. 

OPP officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 17 in Lendrum Township, south of Wawa. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had been consuming alcohol and subsequently made an arrest. 

A 27-year-old man from St. Clair township in southwestern Ontario now faces charges of impaired driving, blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, and failure to comply with probation order. 

The man also had his driver's licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for one week.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Wawa on Sept. 14.
