Locals raise awareness on World COPD Day

THUNDER BAY -- Most people probably don't think about their breathing, while they carry on their everyday lives.

THUNDER BAY -- Most people probably don't think about their breathing, while they carry on their everyday lives.

But for people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, they're always thinking about their breathing because they are always short of breath.

Wednesday was World COPD Day and Thunder Bay residents living with a form of COPD spent the day learning more about it.

Of the almost 800,000 Ontarians suffering from it, around half have a severe form of the disease. Globally almost half of cases are unknown and speakers at Wednesday's information and awareness event say many people have no idea what symptoms could be coming from COPD.

Locally, the Every Breath Counts group meets regularly to raise awareness and help those living with COPD.
