Some councillors think the proposed city budget isn’t what it seems.

The man accused of stealing a plane from Confederation College in 2009 and flying it into the United States may have his case settled before it goes to trial.

The city’s budget process is a long and arduous one. It’s also complicated. At $225 million and change, it’s the financial document that lays out what will and won’t get done next year, subject to council’s approval.

Representatives from dozens of Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities met in Thunder Bay to help shed light on First Nation energy needs. More than 200 people attended the Nishnawbe Aski Nation conference at the Valhalla Inn.

Three Dryden hunters have been fined a total of $4,200 for illegally killing a moose. The Ministry of Natural Resources reports that a Dryden man was fined $2,600 for shooting a moose from a road and being in possession of an illegally killed animal.

The city manager says difficult decisions are going to have to be made as the city goes through its core business review.

Peggy Nash says the federal government needs to invest in the country’s transit system. And if she were Prime Minister, the NDP leadership hopeful from Parkdale-High Park, said it would do just that.
